Chef Alfio Gulisano grew up between two worlds—Italian heritage at home and Argentine fire in the streets of Mendoza.
His cooking reflects that blend: bold flavors, handmade everything, and a deep respect for tradition, with just enough rebellion to keep it interesting.
After years of cooking in top kitchens, he opened Alfio’s Buon Cibo in 2012 with one goal: serve food that actually means something.

Twelve years later, the mission hasn’t changed.
We still roll the pasta by hand. We still let the wine speak.
And most nights, you’ll still find Chef Alfio in the kitchen—because this place is personal.

A Taste of Portugal

Join us for an intimate 6-course wine dinner exploring the soulful, coastal flavors of Portugal.

From crispy salt cod fritters and grilled octopus to fiery Peti Peti chicken and rich duck confit, each dish is paired with hand-selected Portuguese wines — including amphora-aged whites, vibrant rosés, and a 2005 vintage Tawny Port.

Crafted by Chef Alfio and Sommelier Allison, this one-night-only menu captures Portugal’s rustic charm, layered spice, and deep culinary traditions.

At this year’s Taste of Cincinnati, Alfio’s Buon Cibo took home Best Entrée for our slow-braised short ribs over gnocchi in a truffle and spinach cream sauce—plus a Bronze Medal for our Korean BBQ Empanada.

    We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We ordered a variety of dishes, all were presented beautifully and were deliciously well balanced for flavor. We split a couple items and they brought them out separately, both beautifully plated. The service was excellent, classy yet friendly. Highly recommend if you’re not afraid to spend a bit.

    One of my favorite dining experiences year to date.
    We started out with some cocktails at the bar with a very friend bartender. Drinks were made very well.
    Dinner kicked off with some different empanadas with one of them being wild boar. All yummy. We also had the mussels. They were fantastic.

    As for dinner, I had the special of the day which was a Chilean sea bass over risotto. One of most flavorful dishes over risotto I ever had. It was great.
    Wine selection was good too. The on-site sommelier was great. She recommended some good wine. Overall staff was awesome we especially Cam.
    Highly recommend.

    Alfio’s consistently delivers an amazing dining experience ! The food is always spectacular, great wine selection and craft cocktails. Our group of 4 had the sea bass special, lamb chops, and pasta dishes. Delicious! To make the night even more perfect we had Tyler M for our server! This charming young man topped off the great food with wonderful service and fun conversation! His pride in working there shines through as he describes the menu! Well done Alfios ! Perfect night! We will be back!
